Joshua Skaggs
Writer | Editor | Story Consultant

Hi there.
I’m Joshua Skaggs, a writer, teacher, and foster dad. You can find my writings on Substack and in various other publications. I also work as a contract writer, editor, and story consultant.
Writing
As a kid I wrote stories about black holes and secret societies. Today, I bring those same storytelling sensibilities to a broader range of projects.
I write for non-profits, businesses, authors, and print publications. Whether I’m interviewing an Olympian in my hometown of Colorado Springs or teen nomads in the deserts of Namibia, I love telling true stories about normal people in odd situations.
While I have sometimes dabbled in technical writing, my natural strengths lie in more narrative-heavy pieces. I have written everything from donor pitches to ad spots, and I am a regular contributor to ColoSpgs Mag and Fostering Families Today.
Editing
My role as an editor is to recognize a client’s singular vision and ensure it reaches its audience in its best form.
I’ve worked as an editor on scripts, donor letters, novels, and published books. Some recent highlights include:
- The Paradise King, by Blaine Eldredge
- Jesus, Our Refuge, by Matt Fradd
- Full Circle, by Tanner Peake
“Joshua Skaggs has a profound gift for articulating the deeper things of the heart. He is an insightful artist who writes relatable and transformative narratives.”

Story Consulting
As a story consultant, I come alongside a writer when a project needs guidance beyond the scope of editorial feedback.
Story consulting is Steward Creative’s premier service, the bullseye at the center of my editing wheelhouse. As a consultant I’ve refurbished marketing scripts and rediscovered lost threads in novels, steering projects back on track when they get mired in production. This is partnership at its best, a mutual investment in the finished work.
